SETIS

The Sydney Electronic Text and Image Service

 introduction

SETIS provides access to a large number of networked and in-house full text databases, primarily but not exclusively, source texts within the humanities. In addition to these literary, philosophical and religious texts the service is engaged in a number of text and image creation projects. The networked texts are sgml-encoded texts converted on the fly to html for display. Many of these are commercially licensed texts and available only to users at the University of Sydney.

 mission

The primary purpose of SETIS is to provide a scholarly electronic publishing and digital library platform to support and further the programs and goals of the University and the Library.

In achieving this purpose SETIS will

  • contribute to the Library being recognised as a leader and active partner in the scholarly communication process within the University and beyond.
  • become an established digital library service creating and maintaining a range of scholarly resources to support research and study across the University and beyond.
  • provide expertise and skills in digital conversion and publishing for both the Library and the University
  • form new partnerships and collaborations with academics, other libraries and institutions

SETIS will continue to support and provide a network platform for existing and new textual and image databases, and provide services to facilitate and support textual study within the University.
